Workshop Abstract:
There is a pressing need to design and evaluate both cyber- and
physical systems (CPS) together and holistically for a rapidly growing
number of applications, such as emerging and future combat systems,
ground-aerial-water vehicles, as well as smart buildings, bridges and
other structures. In such systems, cyber components are embedded in –
and work for/with – physical systems. However, the two are designed and
implemented separately, without considering their interplay, thus
requiring expensive and time-consuming tweaking of both components.
Recognizing this issue, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has
been orchestrating multiple research communities to identify basic
research issues in CPS and formulate a research portfolio.
This ARO-sponsored workshop intends to focus on security and privacy in
CPS. It will bring together a group of experts in order to
identify key CPS security and privacy research issues and
recommend the Army Research Office (ARO) to invest its resources
to address them.
